Raise your banner. Break your neighbours. Take the realm.

Public games

Reaching the server…

Free to play in your browser. Nothing to download, no account needed.

The war is on the map

No battle screens and no menus full of numbers. Everything that happens, happens on the land in front of you.

⚔

Watch the line move

Send a share of your levies at a neighbour and companies of spearmen form up on the border, push it forward tile by tile, and meet the defenders coming the other way.

🏰

Build a realm, not a blob

Towns raise your levy cap, keeps harden a border, harbours and markets fill your purse. Roads appear between your holdings and caravans walk them.

🐉

Sorcery for the endgame

Raise a mage tower and you can hurl fireballs, loose a dragon on a province, or pull down a starfall. Ballista towers are how your rivals answer.

🤝

Pacts, and breaking them

Swear a pact, lend levies, send gold, ban trade. Break your word and every lord in the realm will know you for an oathbreaker.

🗺

A new realm every game

Continents, island chains, twin shores or a ring around an inland sea. Each is generated fresh from a seed you can share.

⛵

The sea matters

Longships carry an invasion to any coast. War galleys sink them, and seize the merchant cogs that make your rivals rich.

How a game goes

  1. Raise your banner

Pick any unclaimed land. A dozen kingdoms and a hundred tribes are doing the same.

  2. Push the line

Take the wilds, then the tribes, then choose which neighbour to trust and which to break.

  3. Take the crown

Hold four fifths of the realm and it is yours.

What you build

Against people

Play solo against lords run by the game: they expand, ally, betray and cast as a player would, at four levels of ruthlessness.

Or against people: join the public game gathering at the top of this page, or host a private one and send friends the code. Every player's browser runs the same simulation in step, so a realm full of banners needs only a small server.

Free and open

crusades.io is free to play, and free software under the GNU AGPL v3.

Its simulation is built on the OpenFront engine.

What's new

Every change to the game, straight from its history. The site redeploys itself with each one.
